CSR Initiatives: Rice Bucket Challenge

 

 

 

The #RiceBucketChallenge was started on August 22, 2014 on Facebook in India by our friends and associates in Hyderabad Mrs. Manju Latha Kalanidhi and Mr. Vijeye Devuni. The #RiceBucketChallenge involves donating a bucket of rice to a poor person or family. The #RiceBucketChallenge enables companies having very small CSR budgets achieve their CSR compliance.

The #RiceBucketChallenge initiative went viral on Facebook and social media and many celebrities, corporate, campuses, colleges, households participated in big numbers. On #RiceBucketChallenge Facebook page alone 65,000+ people have participated by giving their like to the page and over 4,000 people have uploaded their photos of participating in the said initiative. Between one year 2014 to 2015 over 100,000 Kgs. of rice got distributed peer-to-peer in India alone under this initiative.

Over 30 Corporate Companies such as Microsoft India, ADP, Infotech Park, BigBasket.com, Air Costa and campuses like University of Hyderabad, Manipal University, Apoorva Degree College in Karimnagar, KITS Warangal, etc. have participated in #RiceBucketChallenge.

Several film personalities from Hollywood, Bollywood and South India have also participated in # RiceBucketChallenge initiative. To name a few Miley Cyrus, Karan Johar, Mahesh Bhatt, Priyanka Chopra and Suchitra Krishnamorthy.

The #RiceBucketChallenge also went viral in rice growing countries of South East Asia and South America. The initiative was also coverage in international and domestic media like BuzzFeed, Quartz, Huffington Post, Chicago Tribune, CNN, BBC, CNBC, NPR, NDTV, Time, Hindu and many other news websites.

The #RiceBucketChallenge initiative has won several accolades and awards as under:

*                  Karamveer Chakra March 2015

*                  100WomenAchievers March 2016
